This weekend leads us to one of the biggest and best events in Dublin this Summer. The occasion is to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Subject, who’ve given us the likes of Derrick May, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Horse Meat Disco and Levon Vincent at their events. Subject have quality experience in throwing their own birthday parties. To celebrate 5 years running, they had the legend Jeff Mills playing at Twisted Pepper. They have now doubled in both years and efforts to throw an anniversary party. It’s clear they have come a long way; now in District 8, teaming up with Circles and with a fully loaded lineup, this is something not to be missed.
WWD are very jealous of this 10 year old’s birthday, they don’t have just one day, they have three. The pre-party will be on Friday with the day’s events running with and located at All City Record Store. The lineup showcases the extreme talent that is prevalent in Dublin right now. Acts such as Mode_1, Niall Cleary and headliner DJ Deece will get everyone warmed up for the weekend ahead. Check out WWD’s catch up with the headliner on his experience as a resident at Hidden Agenda here. So a lot to look forward to already and if that’s not enough for ya, admission is free!
Now we’ve broken in our dancing shoes we move into District 8 for the Saturday evening. Things, at this point, will start to heat up nicely. Our main man, Sage, will be playing; check out our Prima Lux instalment, which includes an interview and a tasty mix for WWD, to see what’s in store this Saturday. Then headlining the night will be the King of House, Kerri Chandler, with a 4 hour set- what a great birthday present! Have a taste of his musical genius, with the big KC playing live piano over his set a few weeks ago. All the more to be excited!
Rolling on to Sunday and there is much more to come with an all day party. WWD have no complaints with Subject’s refusal to end it’s birthday. Instead of a scary clown as entertainment, there will be a double headline billing, of the most sought after DJs right now. First will be Mixmag’s DJ of the Year 2016, The Black Madonna. Her production and performances this last year have proved her worthiness of the Mixmag title, don’t miss this incredible act in her prime… Second to headline is the Techno Titan from Berghain, Ben Klock, whom we’ve sorely missed. No better way to make up for his absence than with a 4 hour set.
As everyone scurries out of the club with ears ringing from hours of banging tunes, one thinks right, great weekend, but Monday is just round the corner, time for bed. Oh no sir, the birthday candles haven’t been blown out yet. The night, no matter what day of the week, is still young. Straight out of District 8 and into Index for the official afterparty with Sunil Sharpe, who has been a loyal DJ to the Subject clan over the years. A fitting end to the celebrations.
Although that’s just about it for the Birthday celebrations the Subject crew look set to continue their string of esteemed bookings in the coming months with Floorplan on route and much more to be announced. And if their recent history is anything to go by (Robert Hood, Moodyman and Rebekah to name but a few), then we are in for a treat.
It seems that for Subject’s Birthday the best present to give is your presence. With a lineup this good coming from local and worldwide, it would be silly not to be there. The Circles weekend will leave you with a goody-bag full of memories, aching feet, and cake (we’re joking, get your own cake you fool).
Happy 10th Birthday Subject xoxo
